UJAROCK

UjaRock (Steen Olsen) has been a well-known figure on the Greenlandic music scene for many years, but has now released music under his own name for the first time.

UjaRock's debut album, Illerngit Aqqutivut, was written and composed in collaboration with Kaali Olsen, and was released in November 2024. The album subsequently won the Koda Awards of the year.

UjaRock's music explores the different facets of life - from the bright to the darker sides. They touch on themes such as identity, acceptance, love, hate, bullying and exclusion. UjaRock shares authentic stories from childhood, youth and adulthood. The songs also contain messages about faith, hope and dreams of a better life in a spacious society characterized by mutual respect and tolerance.

The guitar is the dominant instrument on the album, and the music moves unpolished between the genres of melodic rock, folk-rock and pop. The lyrics and music merge to create a cohesive story that delves into the deepest and sometimes darker corners of the soul.
